PRP INJECTION THERAPY

Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Therapy (PRP) is a treatment used to speed up the healing process of tendon injuries and osteoarthritis naturally without subjecting the patient to risk or surgery. PRP is blood plasma enriched with disk shaped clear cell fragments known as platelets.

The effectiveness of PRP Injection Therapy as a healing therapy depends on each patient. While still in the experimental stages, we’ve seen many athletes get PRP Injection Therapy and return to activities with their tissues healed a few weeks after the procedure.

How Does it Work?

Platelet Rich Plasma has been shown to increase the speed of the natural healing process.  PRP has also seen use in healing otherwise difficult to treat ailments.

When blood cells are concentrated and then injected into a certain area of the body, those cells get to work building structures and rebuilding weakened systems. Nothing extra is added and PRP uses a patient’s own blood so they’re little chance of any side effects. PRP is used to for a variety of applications from tendonitis treatment to chronic back pain.

What Is The Process Like?

After you meet with our specialist, he will go over treatment options, and then you can elect to have PRP injections. Once its decided, you’ll schedule another appointment.

A doctor will meet with you and check to make sure that you are healthy enough at the time to undergo the procedure. Once the doctor deems you fit to undergo the procedure, they will begin drawing blood. After the correct amount of blood is drawn, the doctor will process it, concentrating the platelets and disposing of the platelet weak plasma so that only the platelet rich plasma is left. The platelet rich plasma is then injected into your body at the site of the pain or ailment.

All in all, the typical procedure lasts roughly a half an hour and recovery time is minimal. Depending on the scope of the PRP therapy, patients can expect to feel results in a few weeks.
