Osteoporosis Screening and Treatment
The leading causes of osteoporosis are a drop in estrogen in women at the time of menopause and a drop in testosterone in men. Women over age 50 and men over age 70 have a higher risk for osteoporosis.
An aggressive treatment approach is usually employed if a patient has failed conservative treatment or presents in severe pain or with loss of function for which a conservative treatment plan would not be appropriate.
Women over the age of 65 are at higher risk for hip fracture and developing osteoporosis, a disease that thins bones and makes them easier to break.
